A.W. Tozer (1897–1963) was a pastor and author whose devotional writing combined theological depth with prophetic urgency. His work consistently called believers away from religious formalism toward genuine encounter with the living God.
Tozer served as pastor of Southside Alliance Church in Chicago for 31 years and later at Avenue Road Church in Toronto. He was known for insisting that Christianity without genuine encounter with God is merely religion — and that most of what passes for Christianity in the modern West is exactly that.
His books are among the most widely read devotional works of the 20th century. The Pursuit of God and The Knowledge of the Holy are considered modern classics of Christian devotion.
Written in a single night on a train in 1948. Named to Christianity Today's list of 100 Books of the Century. Public domain in the United States.
Tozer's systematic meditation on the attributes of God — his most theologically concentrated work. Chapters on the self-existence, omniscience, holiness, and love of God.
The Pursuit of God is in the public domain in the United States (Project Gutenberg, 2008). Other Tozer titles remain under copyright by their respective publishers.
