Ephesians 3:20

The Greek is almost untranslatable in its excess — hyperekperissou, a word Paul appears to have coined because no existing word was large enough. Above and beyond and over and more than all that we ask or think. And the ground of this excess is not arbitrary divine omnipotence exercised from a distance. It is kata tēn dynamin tēn energoumenēn en hēmin — according to the power that is already at work inside us. The exceeding abundance is not coming from outside to a people standing at a distance. It is already operative within the union. Christ in you. The Spirit dwelling in your inner man. Thread 6 is the reason Ephesians 3:20 is possible — the power that works above all we can ask is the power of a God who has taken up residence within.

PRAYER

Let the union I have in Christ be more real to me today than anything I can feel with my hands.
